Costa Rica girls – Tips on Dating Costa Rica Women

While it was once considered the undiscovered jewel of the South American continent, Costa Rica is fast becoming its most popular holiday destination. From its magnificent jungles and gorgeous landscapes to its historic sites and megaliths, there is a lot of different facets to Costa Rica that make it the ideal destination to host wellness retreats, shoot blockbuster movies and for history buffs to rediscover ancient civilisations, while taking in its awesome bounty of indigenous plant and local cuisine. However, apart from Costa Rica’s uniquely enthralling sights and sounds, its women are the real treasure to behold for eligible bachelors.

In today’s article, we’ll be arming you with helpful tips on how to date Costa Rican women, what to expect from the experience, and how to enjoy your trip to Costa Rica as a whole.

1. Know what you want

The first thing is to be clear on your own intentions and know what exactly it is that you want. You see, as you travel to beautiful cities like Jaco and San Jose, you’ll encounter a lot of beautiful women. However, it’s important to know that some of these women are actually prostitutes, some operating on a professional and other on a semi-professional level. You may not fully understand what the latter category of prostitutes refers to, so a little explanation is in order. Semi-professional prostitutes are basically women who choose to hook up with western men a few times a month just so they can earn enough to pay their bills and cover their children’s school fees, as the country currently faces a huge problem of having fatherless children. That’s why it’s important to make it clear as to what you’re eyeing.

The city of Jaco specifically, has a larger concentration of prostitutes than other places, whereas you’re more likely to find regular single women in places like San Jose. This is not to say that San Jose does not have prostitutes, but rather they’re not as plentiful as you’d find in Jaco, for example. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a relationship because of a planned long-term stay then you’ll do well to put yourself out there so that you can meet different women before you choose the one who is right for you. Also, you’ll probably have to take the relationship slow because Costa Rican girls can be difficult to figure out in the beginning and will take time to reveal their true character, whether good or bad. However, beware of women who don’t have an ID, as that usually means that they’re illegal and dating her may get you into a lot of trouble.

2. Learn to speak Spanish

Learning to speak Spanish before you leave for Costa Rica will improve your chances of getting laid, because it is the official language of the country and it’ll serve you in good stead when you travel to most other South American countries as well. Learning their language also shows Costa Rican women that you’re sincerely interested in them as people, as well as their culture. Nonetheless, this doesn’t mean that you need to be completely fluent in the language in order to make yourself eligible in Costa Rica, but the women there will expect you to speak and understand a fair amount of Spanish if you expect to seriously date one of them.

3. ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ have a completely different meaning in Costa Rica

Believe it or not, Costa Rican women have a difficulty saying ‘no’ due to their culture and how they are raised, and will therefore seek other ways to let you down. For example, a girl may give you the wrong number to show that she’s not interested, or stand you up for a date. All of these are attempts to let you down easy and are a clear ‘no’ according to their culture, so take no offense, understand the actions for the message that they convey and move on.

4. The concept of time is different in Costa Rica

The vibe in Costa Rica is generally that of a very stress-free and easy-going atmosphere. The people there are hardly ever in a rush and punctuality is not a big deal, so don’t be alarmed if your date doesn’t apologize for being 30 minutes late.  Remember this when you ask a girl out and don’t assume that she stood you up if she hasn’t arrived half an hour from the arranged time, punctuality is just not in her DNA.

5. Frequent the pubs situated close to the university

If you want to meet Costa Rica’s trendy young women, visit the pubs that are located close to the university grounds especially on Friday and Saturday evenings, as they are filled with young, beautiful, intelligent and charismatic women. These girls are usually fun-loving and friendly, and the environment of being in a pub makes it easy to break the ice.

6. Have fun

As any single guy who’s explored the country will tell you, Costa Rican women know how to have a good time. In fact, most of the women in Costa Rica are fun, flirtatious, full of life and sensual. They almost all have this amazing smile that just melts the heart completely, and even if you don’t find the love of your life in Costa Rica, you’re sure to enjoy some amazing moments and leave with unforgettable memories.

7. Steer clear of the massage parlours

An actual, normal massage is the last thing you’ll get from a massage parlour in Costa Rica, because most of them are really just undercover (sometimes blatant) brothels. However, if you’re looking to pay for sex then a massage parlour is absolutely the place to go when you’re in the country.

 8. Flirting doesn’t equate to interest

If a Costa Rican woman is flirting with you, don’t let it get to your head, because she may just be having a good time without any thought of taking it further with you. Thing is, Costa Rican women generally have bubbly personalities and laughing and flirting is part of how they socialise on a daily basis. In fact, it’s become more of a habit than a mating ritual like it is in the West, and they’re much more playful in comparison to women in countries like the US and UK for example.

9. Don’t be a show off

Be careful not to overplay the ‘westerner’ card because international tourists are an everyday occurrence in Costa Rica and women are used to socialising with men from all over the world. Therefore, it would be a good idea not to tell women at every chance you get that you’re from a developed western country, and try to not make a big deal about your English accent or the fact that you’re so proficient in the language. They’ll probably look at you like, ‘so what?’ You’ll be better off showing off your Spanish than boasting about where you come from.

10. Not all Costa Rican girls are easy, so proceed with caution

The fact that women in Costa Rica enjoy flirting and having fun, or that some are semi and full-on prostitutes does not make them an easy catch. On the contrary, there are a lot of really good women to be found in Costa Rica who are highly intelligent, well-educated as they are beautiful, and with real family values to boot. So, be sure to look in the right places and you’ll find the right girl for you.

 11. Don’t make assumptions about Costa Rican women’s state of development

As much as we don’t like to admit it, most Westerners tend to make erroneous assumptions about people in developing countries, and most of those assumptions are based on thinking that they’re all very traditional. This generalisation couldn’t be more wrong. In actual fact, Costa Rica has some of the most open minded and liberal people in the world. Most of the locals live very Western lifestyles and the women are quite adventurous and progressive that even you may not be able to keep up with them!

12. There are a lot of international women in Costa Rica

Surprisingly enough, a lot of the women you’ll meet in Costa Rica are from other countries in Asia, North America and even Europe, and they either travel as tourists or for work such as real estate etc. While most men travel to the country to meet the long haired local beauties with enchanting eyes, it’s fairly commonplace to encounter women from other nations when you’re in Costa Rica. It’s a country with a really diverse and beautiful mix of women to choose from, including different races, features and personalities.

13. Consider their personality

Costa Rican women are quite a paradox in that, apart from being flirtatious and bubbly, most of them are also very wholesome. Most of Costa Rica’s women are not into skimpy clothes or going to night spots alone, but they are quite intelligent, independent and generally well-accomplished, and that’s in addition to their striking looks.

14. Family values are a must

Family is a big thing in Costa Rican society and you’ll earn brownie points if you show respect for her elders and family as a whole. Avoid taking sides if there’s a fight, but rather show support and compassion for everyone involved without implicating yourself, as most girls in Costa Rica live with their parents until marriage, and this goes for those in university as well as independent women that work for themselves.  Also, never decline an offer to attend a holiday feast or a family celebration, and don’t ever make fun of her family either.

 15. Compliment her cooking

Regardless of whether she’s a good or a bad cook, be sure to show appreciation for her kitchen skills, because that is a very important part of being a woman in Costa Rica, and women take pride in being able to prepare food for their families and significant others. Most of her cooking will probably consist of family recipes that have been passed down throughout the generations and it deserves nothing less than total awe from you.

 16. Education is important

Costa Rican women revere education and they prefer to get some type of qualification even if they won’t be using it. That’s why you’ll find a lot of stay-at-home moms with bachelors and even master’s degrees or running businesses of their own. In most cases, the most unassuming women hold powerful positions, so you’ll do well not to underestimate Costa Rican women.

 17. Religion

Religion is a massive part of Costa Rican culture, and it’s probably a very important aspect of your girl’s personality, so if she invites you to a religious service or ceremony, try and look your very best, because it may precede a large family feast where you’ll meet more of her family.

18. Take your time

As briefly mentioned above, you shouldn’t be in a rush when dating a Costa Rican woman because it’ll take time before she genuinely opens up to you beyond the usual flirting and playfulness.
